Physical Therapist:

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, or carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, or prevent physical dysfunction in patients.

  • Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention.

  • Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.

  • Test and measure patient's strength, motor development and function, sensory perception, functional capacity, or respiratory or circulatory efficiency and record data.

  • Review physician's referral and patient's medical records to help determine diagnosis and physical therapy treatment required.

  • Obtain patients' informed consent to proposed interventions.

  • Administers physical therapy treatments by giving massages, manual therapy, strengthening and stretching exercise, applying physical agents like moist packs, TENS, electric stimulation, and ultrasound machines; directing treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants.

  • Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or enter information into computer.

  • Inform patients and refer to appropriate practitioners when diagnosis reveals findings outside physical therapy.

  • Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals.

  • Advising the patient and family about in-home treatment options and exercises

  • Maintains patient confidence and protects medical record by keeping information confidential.

  • Bachelor Degree is required in Physical Therapy or Physiotherapy or Kinesiology.

Aide

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares patient for physical therapy – welcoming, comforting and assisting in providing high quality treatment

  • Display excellent customer service skills

  • Follow the plan of care established for the patient by the therapist

  • Assist the therapists with non-clinical tasks and do whatever is needed to accommodate and support the patient’s success in therapy

  • Assist patient with light exercises and strengthening techniques

  • Maintain a pleasant and professional relationship with patients

  • Prepare and keep treatment areas clean and organized

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association

  • Ability to supervise Physical Therapy modalities and exercise programs safely and according to accepted standards

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Clear and concise communication skills and professional telephone skill

  • One-year Physical Therapy Aide experience or related patient care experience

  • Completion of medical receptionist training program or equivalent medial office training/experience

  • Computer experience

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
